Carriers bill the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is length × width × height in centimetres divided by a divisor your forwarder chooses — 5000 and 6000 are common, and express carriers use their own. Get the divisor wrong and a light bulky parcel is mispriced by a wide margin. Enter dimensions in either unit system and the chargeable weight feeds straight into the freight rate table.
